Local Bendigo Braves players Mia Harvey and Dash Daniels will represent Victoria in the Australian Junior Championships this July in Perth.
Mia and Dash both represent the Country Victoria team and have been selected to play in the Australian Junior Championships, a big win for Bendigo Basketball.
“Having these two athletes representing at a National level means heaps for Bendigo basketball because every athlete that represents us at a State, National or International level sets the groundwork for others to follow.” Said Joe Hurst, Director of Coaches and Athletes Development.
Dash is no stranger to the Junior Championships, making it as a bottom ager athlete last year, and this year Mia also gets an opportunity to represent Country Victoria as a bottom age athlete at only 13 years of age.
“It’s great representing the state and playing against the best players in the country is exciting.” Said Dash, “I made the team last year as a bottom ager and it was cut because of COVID. That was disappointing but back at it again this year.”
The pair aren’t strangers to basketball around the country, with both of their fathers being Bendigo Braves Legends of the game, #4 Ben Harvey and #23 Ricky Daniels.
The athletes will head to Western Australia where the championships are held in Perth 3rd July to 10th July.
“Being a bottom ager I am looking forward to this opportunity to play against the best in the country, meet new people along the way and play the sport we both love.” Said Mia.
The success of the players highlights the basketball pathway programs at Bendigo, and the excellence in sport here that provides these opportunities for our emerging athletes. This is an opportunity to showcase the skills coming out of Bendigo.
