For the first time ever, one of the fastest growing Wheelchair sports in Australia the Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL), will make its way to Red Energy Arena on Sunday August 20th.
The day will begin with the Community Wheelchair Football League (CWFL) at 12:30PM, followed by the 2022 Grand Final rematch between the Essendon Football Club and the Richmond Football Club at 2:00PM on Court 6.
There will be some familiar faces to the Bendigo locals, with Chris Henderson (Sandhurst Football Club premiership player) lining up for the Tigers, Bendigo Basketball Social Media Coordinator and Bendigo Roller Brave Caleb Logan, and another Bendigo Roller Brave Hayden Farley lining up for the Bombers.
Both teams will be stacked with talent with four-time Essendon Best and Fairest winner Caleb Logan taking home last year’s league Best and Fairest and becoming only the second ever player to score 100 goals in a season, Chris Henderson with a premiership, a Richmond Best and Fairest and a best on ground in a Grand Final, and also Teisha Shadwell with a best on ground in last year’s Grand Final for the Tigers. With a lot more going on to represent Victoria at the AFL Wheelchair Nationals and claiming last year’s title after going undefeated!
Schools & Inclusion manager Nick Holloway said he is looking forward to new viewers enjoying the game of AFL Wheelchair.
“The VWFL is excited to head to Bendigo, we have some of our league’s best talent coming in from regional Victoria, so to take our sport to these communities will allow new viewers to enjoy our great game. We hope the Bendigo community get behind what is sure to be a great weekend of footy, with the 2022 VWFL Grand Final replay between Richmond and Essendon coming to town.” said Nick.
There will be an auction for signed merchandise, some familiar faces to all the football fanatics in attendance plus you could have the chance to jump in a chair and try your wheelchair skills!
This will be a day not to be missed! And you can attend for FREE!
