Pickleball finds home at Red Energy Arena

Pickleball is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and it now has a new home in Bendigo.

We are delighted to announce the Bendigo Pickleball Club has agreed to play its competitions at Red Energy Arena until at least 30 June 2025.

“After running a trial at Red Energy Arena, it was clear to us that this is the best venue to accelerate our growth,” Paul Henshall, BPC President, says.

“The facilities are fantastic for playing pickleball, as well as our members being able to socialise together.

“During the trial we enjoyed a significant increase in the number of new players, many who never played the game before, and are confident this trend will continue.”

That growth in participation is a global trend, with the sport experiencing a boom in recent years.

Part of its appeal is its simplicity, combining elements of tennis and badminton in a game that appeals to young and old, novices and experts.

Players use a flat paddle to hit a hollow plastic ball over a net on what looks like a small tennis court.

“We are delighted that Bendigo Pickleball Club have decided to continue playing at REA for a further 12 months,” Craig Armstead, General Manager – Sport, Red Energy Arena, says.

“Pickleball is a fast-growing sport globally and REA is the ideal venue to host games with capacity to support this expected growth.

“Having recently played for the first time, l understand why the sport is growing and look forward to picking up a paddle and ball regularly!”

The central Victoria community can now play pickleball at Red Energy Arena twice per week:

  • Mondays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm
  • Fridays from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Cost: $6 for members and $12 for non-members
